14 killed, 14 injured in collision
RCMP

ARMLEY — RCMP are reporting 14 people were killed and 14 people were injured in a serious collision between a hockey team’s bus and a semi-trailer unit near the intersection of Highways #35 and #335 on Friday. Three of those people were sent to hospital with critical injuries.

The Star-Phoenix reports the bus was the Humboldt Broncos’. The RCMP have not confirmed whether the deceased are players or coaches.

Nipawin RCMP, along with emergency personnel, including the Tisdale Fire Department, are currently on scene and are continuing rescue efforts.

Traffic is blocked near the scene and RCMP said they expect that to continue for several hours, with drivers facing lengthy delays. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when driving in the area, and are asked to avoid the area altogether if possible.

A gathering point has been established at Nipawin’s Apostolic Church on 109 4th Ave. East for families and friends. RCMP say more information will be provided there. Emergency measures personnel will be at the church, as will Victim Services representatives.
