The Chamber of Commerce discussed a hodgepodge of issues at their executive meeting yesterday at the Friendship Centre. Highlights from the noonhour meeting, attended by 14 people, include: Treasurer Lois (Bunny) Burke suggested the chamber look at revising the book Flin Flon: A Visual History to include photos from events that took place after 1983, when the book was published. She felt the chamber should approach the City for funding for the project, noting that the original book generated considerable revenue. "I think we need to move on this while we have the interest," she said. Burke noted that the sale of the $3 Flin Flon coins has been going well, with about 800 left. She suggested promoting the coins to tourists visiting the community this summer. The coins are available at the banks, chamber office, Flin Flon Station Museum, Tourist Bureau, and most local businesses. President Doug O'Brien outlined the upcoming Main Street Days portion of the Trout Festival. Main Street Days will include the Kinsmen Club's mini golf fundraiser, the Show and Shine automobile show, and a variety of booths. Organizers are also looking at holding a bingo. Mary Dwernichuk noted that the chamber's recent raffle of a framed cross-stitch raised just over $1,200. Winning the cross-stitch, which depicted two loons, was Wayne Chutskoff of Denare Beach. The cross-stitch was put together by a chamber member. The members reviewed information relative to the Manitoba Council on Aging 2004 Recognition Awards. The awards will be given out this October to Manitobans who have helped benefit seniors. For more information, phone 1-800-665-6565. The deadline for nominations is September 3. President O'Brien noted that there will be no general chamber meetings in July or August. Just one executive meeting will take place in July, on the 27th.
