Mayor Cal Huntley is looking for an updated timeline for enhanced internet service in Flin Flon.
During the Feb. 6 committee of the whole meeting, Huntley announced he had approached the provincial government and Bell MTS regarding the city’s concerns about high speed internet.
“It’s a work in progress, but we’re really going to put a concerted lobby effort together to make sure we get some timelines for Flin Flon,” said Huntley.
“In July 2016, they made a statement that we would have enhanced internet within five years. I’ve asked for an update with regards to timing.”
Huntley said the issue is especially important when it comes to diversifying the city.
“We’re looking at diversification projects and things like that. Most new businesses and industries that are potentially looking into the community, that’s one of the [important things], is to have proper high speed internet. We’ll continue to lobby for that and hopefully be successful, at least get some timelines as to what we can expect and what we need to do to escalate those timelines.”
