During the spookiest month of the year, students at Hapnot Collegiate, partnering with the staff of Northland Ford, are planning to frighten away hunger in the community.
Hapnot’s Equality and Social Justice Committee/Gay Straight Alliance (ESJ/GSA) is spearheading We Scare Hunger, a month-long food drive in support of Lord’s Bounty Food Bank.
Natalie Milligan, ESJ/GSA staff advisor, said last year’s campaign brought in more than 1,000 pounds of food – enough to meet the goal of filling a Ford F-150.
This year the bar is set even higher: fill three Ford F-150s with food.
“If [we] do, the other staff advisor, Dan Dillon, will grow his beard until March break,” Milligan said.
Northland Ford will have two trucks parked at the Flin Flon Bombers game on Saturday, Oct. 24 to collect food. People are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the game to help fill the trucks.
Food is also being collected at all local schools, and more events are planned, Milligan said.
We Scare Hunger is a Free the Children campaign that supports local food banks in North America and abroad.
