Creighton MLA Joan Beatty said yesterday it's not for her to comment whether the Creighton School Board made the right call by voting to establish a high school. "At the end of the day, the local school boards are autonomous," she said in a phone interview from her office in Regina. "They are, under the Education Act, given the authority to determine these kinds of issues. What grades are included or how their school is run is their responsibility." Beatty commented that this issue has left Creighton and Denare Beach "pretty split." If that feeling is to be resolved, she said, it's up to the school board and the community. "As an MLA, that is not my role," she said. "This is a local school board that was just recently elected, and they've determined this is a direction they want to go. That's why they're there. They know the community, they know the needs of their students... They chose to go this direction." Beatty is the MLA for Creighton and Denare Beach. She is also the Saskatchewan Minister of Culture, Youth and Recreation, and the Provincial Secretary.
