Men have it pretty easy. Unlike members of that other gender, they will never know the pain of childbirth or the embarrassment of catcalls from construction workers. But for one afternoon at least, guys will experience firsthand one of those unique-to-women pains in the butt: walking in high heels. Next week's Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event will see men strut down Main Street in four-inch heels in support of the Women's Resource Centre. Just as importantly, they will be raising awareness of the violence that continues to target women across Flin Flon, Canada and the entire world. Colleen Arnold, executive director of the centre, calls the event 'a fun way' to get people talking about a serious subject. Arnold relayed the story of one walker who was going to broach the subject of violence against women as he and his daughter decorated his high heels. The shoes are not actually made for women, but for men. Arnold ordered the bright red pumps from a special manufacturer in the United States. So far 22 men have signed up to be part of the walk, which will head down Main Street from Pioneer Square at 4 p.m. next Friday, June 28. Arnold is hoping to exceed last year's total of 30 participants and over $11,000 in pledges. Anyone interested in taking part or donating may contact the centre at 204-681-3105.
