The Manitoba Motor Transport Board will hold public forums to glean feedback on Greyhound Canada's proposed bus service cutbacks. The board hasn't decided where the forums will take place since more than a few communities, including Flin Flon, would be impacted by the proposal to reduce or eliminate bus services in centres across the province. No timeline for the forums is in place, either, though a schedule could be announced within a few weeks, according to a government spokesman. The board is still reviewing more than 50 letters of opposition to the proposal and it's not known when it will reach a final decision on the matter. Monday was the closing date for Manitobans to provide input. Greyhound recently put in an application to cut back on its schedule. Part of the proposal is the elimination of the overnight bus from Flin Flon to Winnipeg and the limiting of service between here and Thompson to twice a week. "I don't think it's acceptable," said Mayor Dennis Ballard in a previous interview. "As far as I'm concerned, in the North, the transportation has got to be there, and if one company isn't going to provide it, I think the government has to get involved. I think we have to make sure we have the service." Greyhound says the number of passengers simply doesn't warrant maintaining the current schedule.
