A former Flin Flonner convicted of first-degree murder nearly 20 years ago has applied to become eligible for an early release. Gordon Alcorn's hearing got underway last week in Winnipeg and is slated to continue this week. Alcorn, who has served 19 years of his mandatory life sentence, hopes to become eligible for release before the 25-year minimum his sentence carries. Alcorn was reportedly convicted in November 1985 in the shooting death of a family friend. The Winnipeg Sun reported that Alcorn wiped tears from his eyes during Friday's proceedings as his sister told the court about his childhood years in Flin Flon.
