Manitoba will get $1.5 billion out of the federal government's new landmark health care package, but it remains to be seen how much will trickle down to Flin Flon. A spokesman for the Manitoba government said federal legislation surrounding Ottawa's $41-billion package must first pass before the province decides how to allocate its share. The province will receive the $1.5 billion over ten years, beginning with an additional $78 million in 2004-05. Across Canada, Ottawa will provide an additional $18 billion, add $3.5 billion to transfer payments and spend $4.5 billion to reduce waiting times. The federal government will also increase transfer payments by six per cent each year to help the provinces cover rising health care costs.
