Friday December 12, was the second awards night for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting this year, held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium in the Community Hall. There were 44 more 25-year watch recipients honoured which increased the total to 2,530 men and women who have worked for 25 years or more at HBMS. Once again, Rob Schiefele was the host for the evening and he introduced Peter Jones, the CEO and President of HBMS, to speak to the watch recipients, safety awards recipients and the new retirees present. Jones congratulated Schiefele on the great job that he has done over the years, as Rob will soon be joining the wonderful world of the retired. Then, Jones welcomed the watch recipients and guests and congratulated them on a tremendous achievement of working for 25 years, many of them accident free. He thanked them for "sticking with it" through good times and bad. He went on to say, "as we pause to think where the Company is, we realize that we are on the threshold of starting the final phase of 777 bringing with it new challenges and contributions that you can make for personal success, as well as for the Company." He offered his heartfelt thanks on behalf of HBMS. Then Schiefele introduced Ian Cooper who gave out the Safety and Accident Free Service awards. He also went on to say that thus far in 2003, there have only been 12 lost time accidents, which also includes the contractors' work.
