An HBMS industrial instrument mechanic is one of Manitoba's top trade graduates. Ryan Bortis was among 38 journeypeople recently honoured at the province's Highest Achievement Awards ceremony in Winnipeg. Recipients were chosen as best in their fields based on criteria that included on-the-job performance, classroom accomplishments and recognition from both employers and instructors. Best marks "The apprentices we're honouring this year have achieved the best marks in the on-the-job skills needed to complete their apprenticeship training," said Entrepreneur-ship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson in a news release. "Apprenticeship has given these young people an opportunity to reach personal career goals and has allowed their employers to build highly skilled workforces that meet their business needs." 2010 The award recipients completed their apprenticeships in 2010. Bortis was the only recipient from northern Manitoba's three major centres of Flin Flon, The Pas and Thompson.
