Hapnot Collegiate track and field athletes cleaned up at the Zone 11 championships in The Pas.
The school won the AA banner for overall performance during the competition on May 25 and 26, earning a total of 37 medals throughout the meet.
Six athletes earned three individual medals each. Alyssa Patterson led the way with three gold medals, winning three separate senior varsity categories – the 100 metre race, the long jump and the triple jump.
Junior varsity athlete Meadow Taylor also earned three first-place finishes, getting gold in the 400 metres, triple jump and high jump.
Jordan Pfoh snagged a trio of honours, including gold medals in the junior varsity long jump and high jump events. Pfoh added a silver in the junior varsity 200 metre race, ending with a time of 27.55 seconds. Justin Lies ended with a pair of silvers in the junior varsity 100 metres and 1500 metres, adding in a gold in javelin.
Myles Quick finished with a gold, silver and bronze medal, getting gold in the varsity discus throw with a 44.3 metre toss. Quick earned silver in the varsity shotput and a bronze in the varsity long jump.
Maddy Lies added a gold and bronze in the varsity javelin and discus, while Ryan Nawrocki earned two gold medals in the junior varsity shotput and discus.
Briah Atkinson finished with three medals in varsity events, including a gold in the 400 metres with a time of 1:13.21 in the final race. Atkinson added bronzes in the 200 metres and the long jump competition.
Another athlete with two first-place finishes was Joie Simon, who ended the meet with gold medals in the junior varsity 100 metre race and the junior varsity outdoor pentathlon. Daley Shaw got a gold in the girls’ junior varsity discus and a silver in the girls’ junior varsity shotput, while Jessie Kozar brought home two medals in the long distances – a silver in the girls’ junior varsity 1500 metres and a bronze in the 3000 metres.
Matthew Ellis, Alli Lytwyn, Ainsley McCracken, Meghan Oliynyk, Abby Quick and David Richard each brought home one medal.
As well as all the individual honours, three relay teams also earned medals. The girls’ junior varsity 4x100 metre team, consisting of Simon, Lytwyn, Taylor and Oliynyk, earned a second place finish. The boys’ junior varsity 4x100 team and the girls’ junior varsity 4x400 team both earned bronze medals.
Each of the podium finishers has earned a spot in track and field provincials, to be held in Winnipeg on June 8 and 9.
