The students are gone for the summer but there's no shortage of hard work going on at Hapnot Collegiate and McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac. Contractors at Hapnot are undertaking the much-anticipated renovation of two science labs. The chemistry lab and the general science lab are undergoing extensive work, with new ceilings, flooring, cabinetry and desks to be installed. The work will also include mechanical upgrades, including the installation of a fume chamber and vented storage cabinet in the chemistry lab. "The labs were designed for schools in the '60s and the curriculum has changed," said Superintendent of Schools Blaine Veitch in a previous interview. Meanwhile at McIsaac, a crew has nearly finished re-roofing the second floor, home to grade 3, 4 and 5 classrooms. "The roof has been leaking," said Veitch earlier this year. The superintendent estimated the roof above the second floor represents between 30 and 40 per cent of the total roof. The province's Public Schools Finance Board, responsible for maintaining school facilities, is footing the bill for both projects. Also at McIsaac, the library is getting an overhaul complete with a new carpet.
