January was another eventful month at Hapnot Collegiate and Many Faces Education Centre. Hapnot spectators were treated with a wrestling tournament the weekend of Jan. 25. Wrestlers from all over the North surged into the gym with medal hopes. Flin Flon wrestlers walked away with eight coveted wins. Gold went to Kara Diakow, Christina McKay, Brandon Lam and Aaron Simon; Silver went to Kari Rutherford, Darwyn Waslyciw and Kade Walker; and a Bronze went to Ryan Brooks. The last weekend in January, the senior basketball teams competed in the prezone tournament in The Pas. The girls are steadily improving while the boys lost a squeaker in the final. This was the first loss this team experienced this season. The junior basketball teams travelled to Thompson for a tournament as well. The junior coaches were excited about the talent and looking forward to the zone tournament. *** Dinner Theatre practices are well underway. The cast has been selected and the fine tuning has begun. 'Peter Panic' will be performed for the public Feb. 13 and 14 in the Hapnot gym. Tickets are available now in the office. Drop in and pick up your tickets to the show, it will be musically entertaining. Dinner Theatre is a major event at Hapnot as students from all grades are involved. The cast is made up of students from all grades. The benefit of the show is also shared between all grades. Any revenue generated goes toward the grads of each grade. By the time our grade 9s are ready to graduate, there is money in the kitty to start with. Staffs at Hapnot and Many Faces are also heavily involved in the event; everyone has a job to do. It is an event that unifies the school students and staff. *** Technology around the school is increasing. Recently a pod of 11 iPads were purchased for student use. Currently Mrs. Jones in the music department uses them for student recordings, while Mrs. Mansell's biology class completed a virtual pig dissection and Mr. Dillon's World Issues class used them for individual research projects. Teachers are infusing more and more technology in their classes in hopes of not only engaging students but connecting with them as well. Exams have come and gone and the new semester begins today.
