As Canadians gear up for the federal election, Hapnot Collegiate students have gone through an electoral process of their own. The students have elected Ashley Biletski and Kristen Gourlay as co-presidents of the 2004-05 Hapnot Student Council. Unlike previous years, the student body participated in an election that resembled the real thing, complete with polling booths and voter registration. Teacher Trent Tuttosi called the simulation a good way to get students interested in voting. Ashley and Kristen, who will both enter grade 12 this September, will replace current co-presidents Rachele Leifso and Matthew Ryan, who are set to graduate. Tuttosi said the current co-presidents have done an amazing job and added he is sure the incoming students will do just as well. As for the rest of next year's executive, a selection process involving the 13 candidates is expected to be finalized next week. The Hapnot Student Council Executive has eight positions, though some may be filled by more than one student.
