Smooth rhythms flowed through the Hapnot Collegiate gymnasium last Wednesday, May 25 as five ensembles performed at the school’s annual Jazz Night.

Students performed 20 songs from various genres throughout the evening.

“This year the audience was treated to everything from jazz standards by instrumental soloists to rock, folk, pop and funk,” said music teacher Kim Jones.

Jazz and choir ensembles performed on the main stage, while eight soloists performed with a house band on a side stage.

“It was thrilling to hear Hapnot alumni Neal Smedegaard and Sam Dufour-Jarvis accompany the soloists with current student Jacob Harvie and staff member Craig MacIntosh,” said Jones.

Jones said lights and sound enhanced the experience, making the students feel “like stars for the evening.”

“They put on a great show,” she said.
