Fighting cancer

On Oct. 9 and 10, Hapnot hosted a JV boys and girls tournament, which was also a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. The “Kick the Cancer” tournament fundraised a total of $734.95 through pledge sheets and silver donations!

Both JV boys and girls teams came out on top, with the JV girls beating the SVRSS girls in the final. The JV boys beat the SVRSS boys in the final.

It was a great tournament turnout and good practice for the teams.

Grad plans

The new grad committee has been formed and an executive chosen. Co-presidents are Abby Wiens and Haylee Werbicki, vice-president is Myla Bridgeman-Forbes and Kelsie Parthenay is secretary.

Grad committee meets every Tuesday at lunch in room 316. All grads are welcome to be a part of the committee.

The grads have already completed one fundraiser, the catalogue and cheese sale. They brought in just under $3,500, with almost $1,700 of that being profit.

The grads have also started selling chocolates and had a bake sale planned for this week.

The grads are motivated to raise money for their grad and are off to a great start.

V-ball provincials

Look for provincial volleyball games that will be hosted in Hapnot Nov. 19, 20 and 21.

Junior Varsity girls from the province will be competing for the provincial banner. There will be games at Hapnot and McIsaac. You can find out more info, up to date scores and pic on our Twitter feed (@hapnot115) and Instagram (Hapnot15).

Cooking group

The Equity and Social Justice/Gay-Straight Alliance (ESJ/GSA) cooking group has started up again and meets on Wednesdays after school in the foods lab.

Using food provided by the Lord’s Bounty Food Bank, we have made soups – we are now expert carrot and vegetable soup-makers – muffins, and thanks to Mr. Dillon’s prolific zucchini plants, lasagna and chocolate zucchini cake.

All food is returned to the food bank for their distribution.

Young knitters

A knitting club, a new activity for those who like to keep busy, has started up on Tuesdays after school, with extra time available on Wednesdays at lunch.

A small but keen group of people has begun to knit. Students have made scarves, and, under the expert eye of Mrs. Marilyn Miller, have begun to learn to make mitts.

A few students have checked out crochet instructions and will be sharing the technique soon. Students are able to get yarn and needles from Mrs. Garinger.

Sew what?

A group of students sews regularly at lunch hour, and during the month of October they met on Tuesday evenings to complete Halloween costumes.

For a few years now, students have made creative projects out of recycled and donated fabrics. Students also often help with the mending of clothing when clothing emergencies crop up at school.

For students who are interested in creating or upcycling, Mrs. Lawrence has the space and equipment available most lunch hours, and could also book an evening in November.
