Flin Flon and area seniors will be cruising the streets in style. In roughly two weeks, the new Lions Club Handi-van will be will be transporting people to wherever they're going. "It's great and the community will get lots of use for it," Steve Spring, president of the Lions Club, says. "I love it." The new van seats eight people and two wheelchairs and is valued near $72,000. The van was under the spotlight for people to see during a tea the Lions Club helped with at the Horticultural Center from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Money is still being raised to pay for the van, as between $30,000 to $35,000 is needed. On Christmas Day, a lucky raffle ticket winner will own a 2006 vehicle from Twin Motors with half the proceeds going towards the van. Money has been raised through various raffles and supportive businesses, which will have ads on the bus each month. The businesses will change. "Over time, people have donated and the club has raised approximately $45,000," Lions Club member La Verne Hinzman said in late August. The City of Flin Flon loaned money that will be paid back with interest. Spring added that the Lions Club has also received help from the Rotary and Kinsmen clubs as it's common for the clubs to support each other.
