Guilty plea in sex case

A former Flin Flon school employee has pleaded guilty to sexual interference involving a 13-year-old male student.

A former Flin Flon school employee has pleaded guilty to sexual interference involving a 13-year-old male student.
Kristina Richelle Lies faces up to 18 months in jail after being involved in what the prosecution called an “inappropriate” relationship in 2013, reports the Winnipeg Free Press.
She will be sentenced Jan. 15 in The Pas.
Flin Flon RCMP began investigating Lies in August 2013 after receiving information that a teenage boy might have been sexually assaulted.
Police arrested Lies, then 36, three weeks later, charging her with sexual interference, sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
Crown attorney Todd Rambow confirmed that the latter two charges were stayed when Lies appeared at a court hearing in The Pas last week.
Support staffer
At the time of her arrest last year, Lies was employed as a support staffer at Ruth Betts Community School, though it is not alleged that she committed any crimes on school property.
As a parent-child programmer, Lies worked with families and attempted to increase community involvement at the K-8 school.
The Flin Flon School Division suspended Lies immediately after she was charged.
Rambow declined to be formally interviewed about the case until Lies is sentenced.
Rambow told last week’s hearing that Lies was in a position of trust over the teenage student when an “inappropriate” relationship began around February 2013, the Free Press reports.
Court was told that the relationship included thousands of text messages that were often sexual in nature, according to the newspaper.
