A Flin Flon man has been sentenced to three and a half years in custody for sexual crimes involving a 13-year-old girl.

Spencer Venne was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to sexual interference, luring and accessing child pornography.

In addition to jail time, Venne must register as a sex offender, provide a DNA sample to police, avoid communication with the victim while in custody, and refrain from owning a regulated weapon for 10 years.

161 order

He also received a so-called 161 order. Named after a section of the Criminal Code of Canada, these orders can limit an offender’s contact with children under the age of 16 as well as his or her use of the Internet.

Venne had also initially faced charges of sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching, but those counts were not included in his final plea.

Flin Flon RCMP arrested Venne, then 31, on Feb. 27 of this year, days after launching an investigation into inappropriate texts sent to the teenage girl.
