A Cranberry Portage man will be sentenced for sexually assaulting minors in that community last summer. The man, 20, recently appeared in Flin Flon Provincial Court, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault. Five other charges were stayed. Crown prosecutor David Gray said the charges involved four minors, all of them females, and stemmed from 'one incident' in Cranberry Portage on Aug. 11, 2012. In order to ensure compliance with a publication ban, The Reminder will not publish certain details of the case, including the offender's name. Sentencing The offender remains in custody. His sentencing date is due to be set on Sept. 4. Gray did not think it appropriate to disclose the length of sentence he will be seeking. Of the charges against the offender that were stayed, two were additional counts of sexual assault. Also stayed were one count of making child pornography, one count of possessing child pornography and one count of breaking and entering into a location and committing an indictable offence therein. Even though those charges were stayed, the judge is entitled to take their underlying evidence into account when deciding on a sentence, Gray said. The offender was, as far as Gray knows, a university student at the time of his arrest.
