Jonathon Naylor Editor For once it was perfectly fine to pig out. Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 73 hosted a pig roast dinner and dance fundraiser last weekend. "We had never done it before," said Don Zollen, one of the organizers of the July 2 event that attracted about 125 people. As guests sat on shaded tables outside the Legion, and on dinner tables inside, a large pig slowly cooked on a massive barbecue. Weighing about 150 lbs., the porker was injected with three different seasonings, giving its front, middle and rear their own special flavours. Delivered straight from Berscheid Meats in The Pas, the pig highlighted a menu that also included salads, corn on the cob and baked potatoes. "We ran out of everything Ð it was a real success that way," said Zollen. The evening capped off with a rousing performance from local band Moon Bath. "It was a good success and everybody had fun," said Zollen, adding that the Legion hopes to make this an annual event. Proceeds from the fundraiser have yet to be calculated but will go back into the Legion and, in turn, the community. Zollen helped organize the supper along with Bev Wilson and Russ and Barb Dobson.
