Police apprehended three teenage vandals after a graffiti victim followed footprints leading to the Community Youth Resource Centre on Monday. The Flin Flon teens, two of whom are 13 and one who is 15, admitted to marking with black spray paint "a large quantity" of buildings and vehicles, Cst. Paul Berthelot said. Police yesterday were aware of at least 15 targets in the Birchview and uptown areas, including Parkdale, Ruth Betts and Many Faces schools, and about half-a-dozen vehicles. "The complaints have been coming in steadily," said Cst. Berthelot, adding that the damages total at least $5,000. The spraypainted messages included various obscenities as well as the letters "NW." The perpetrators might not have been caught if not for some basic detective work. On Monday evening, after discovering his garage had recently been struck, an uptown resident followed a fresh set of tracks to the Community Youth Resource Centre. The victim even matched the footprints to a pair of shoes inside the centre, located beneath the First United Lutheran Church on Second Ave. He contacted the RCMP, who apprehended the boy and, upon further investigation, identified two other male youths who were involved. Cst. Berthelot commended the amateur gumshoe for his effort. "He did a great job," he said.
