Jonathon Naylor Editor High school seniors are getting ready to take the next big step in their lives. Over 110 graduates are expected later this month at Hapnot Collegiate, Creighton Community School and Many Faces Education Centre. As the largest of the three schools, Hapnot anticipates just under 60 graduates. Connor Trudeau has been voted valedictorian, with Flin Flon Mayor and former Hapnot teacher George Fontaine as guest speaker. The students have chosen as their grad song Old School by Hedley. Fundraisers for the Hapnot graduation have included a fashion show, dinner theatre performance and a Christmas tea. The Hapnot grad will take place at the Whitney Forum on Thursday, June 28. The grad march down Main St. will follow. Students will then celebrate their achievement with a safe grad social. Across the border, Creighton expects 36 students to don caps and gowns. Two students, Steven James and Carson Mackonka, will deliver the valedictory address. Shop teacher Ryan Biberdorf is the guest speaker. Two songs There will be two grad songs at Creighton: Tattoos on this Town by Jason Aldean and We Are Young by Fun. Fundraisers have included a Christmas tea, a raffle and a carwash. The Creighton grad will take place Friday, June 22 in the school gymnasium. A grad march down Main St. will be part of the celebration. Later that evening, grads are invited to a chemical-free social at the Creighton Community Hall. See 'Petter...' on pg. 9 Continued from pg. 3 Back in Flin Flon, Many Faces is ready to award diplomas to about 19 students. Brenna Henry is this year's valedictorian, while MLA and former Many Faces teacher Clarence Pettersen has been named guest speaker. One Life by Hedley will be the grad song. Fundraisers for the grad have included a recent combination carwash, barbecue and carwash, and a 50/50 raffle. The Many Faces grad will take place Wednesday, June 27 at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. A social will follow at a local lounge. Of course high school celebrations won't be limited to Flin Flon and Creighton. In Cranberry Portage, about 32 graduates are anticipated at Frontier Collegiate Institute. The Class of 2012 has voted Derek Dumas of Pukatawagan as valedictorian, while school English Language Arts consultant Louisa Petznick has accepted the invitation to be guest speaker. Frontier's grad song had not been chosen as of press time. As in years past, the grads come from a range of northern communities, including Pukatawagan, Moose Lake, South Indian Lake and, of course, Cranberry Portage. Students have taken part in fundraisers for the ceremony, including a community pizza sale and a highway clean-up. The Frontier graduation is set for Saturday, June 23 in the school gymnasium. Meanwhile, Joseph H. Kerry School in Snow Lake is planning for 11 graduates. The all-important valedictory duties will be shared by Lana Dunbar and Kate Hornyak, with former Joseph H. Kerr student Jason Young booked as the guest speaker. You're Going to Miss This by Trace Adkins is the grad song. Fundraisers for the grad have included a food booth as well as a church supper at which students served. The Joseph H. Kerr grad will take place Saturday, June 23 in the gymnasium. A safe grad at the Community Hall will follow.
