It was an emotional evening for many as the graduates at Creighton Community School were honoured for their hard work, dedication, and achievements. The class of 27 saw plenty of support in the audience as family members, friends, fellow students and teachers proudly took their seats in the school's gymnasium last Friday evening. A few tears flowed as the students watched a slideshow full of baby pictures and graduation photos. Few dry eyes were on stage as they honoured and remembered fellow classmate Brooke Natimogan, who passed away in 2006. 'Brooke's smile and friendship is remembered tonight,' said principal Jane Dupre. Guest speaker Janel Pearson, a teacher at the school, gave the graduates an opportunity to laugh as she used humour to point out some important life lessons. She stressed to the graduates who still have an exam or two to write that if they are nauseous and get sick on the paper, it's an automatic 70 per cent. 'Just sayin',' she joked. In all seriousness, Pearson congratulated the students on their success as she looked back on the years they had spent together. Funny stories of a few of the graduates had everyone cracking up. The graduates were honoured and congratulated by MP Rob Clarke as well as MLA Doyle Vermette. Special greetings came from the Town of Creighton as well as the Creighton School Division and Village of Denare Beach. Mark Linnick was announced as the valedictorian as he addressed this fellow students and those in the audience. Presented with a golden sash, Linnick took to the podium for some inspirational words for his classmates. Following the speeches, the graduates were presented with scholarships, bursaries, and awards. Marley Williamson was the big winner of the HudBay Minerals scholarship.
