A Flin Flon-based junior miner is taking its search for gold outside city limits, but not by much. Earlier this month, Copper Reef Mining Corp. expanded the drilling program at its Albert's Lake property, located 20 kilometres east of the community. The company wants to test new areas along strike from known high-grade intersections. Its hope is to expand the resource along a 500-metre strike length. Last week, Copper Reef unveiled results from the first of four holes twinned on the deposit's gold zone, and they were encouraging. The company said the hole intersected wider overall gold mineralization within the shear of 51.2 metres of 1.02 grams of gold per tonne. Should Copper Reef realize its goal of increasing the gold grade on the twinned holes, it says it will boost drilling to allow for the completion of a guideline-compliant mineral estimate. Given the high price of gold, the company said it may also be possible to expand the overall size of the deposit by lowering the cut-off grade for the precious metal. All directions Copper Reef said the deposit, previously tested over a 500-metre strike length and to a depth of 400 metres, remains open in all directions. The company said it believes that with the large widths and high grades present at Albert's Lake, any expansion of the deposit can build tonnage quickly. With other companies considering a potential reopening of three former gold mines in the same region, Albert's Lake is well positioned to provide a feed source to make other operations more viable, Copper Reef said. Approximately 76 holes have been drilled into the gold zone to date. Copper Reef said a reserve estimate compiled in the 1980s Ð and which does not meet today's reporting standards Ð showed the property had 400,000 tonnes of ore containing 7.3 grams of gold per tonne. The Albert's Lake property comprises over 88 mining claims totaling 7,500 hectares.
