Jonathon Naylor Editor Auriga Gold Corp. took another step toward potentially restarting a gold mine near Sherridon last week, hiring a general manager for the Maverick Gold Project. Mike Kernick will be responsible for the planned mining and milling operations at the site, which includes the long-idle Puffy Lake mine and adjacent prospects. 'We are fortunate to have Mike join Auriga as general manager to advance the Maverick Gold Project to gold production,' said Richard Sutcliffe, president and CEO of Auriga, in a news release. 'His experience with narrow vein gold mining in the Timmins camp (of Ontario) is particularly well-suited to the Puffy-style mineralization and I look forward to working together with Mike to build (this) project into a successful and profitable mining operation.' Auriga said Kernick's experience with various Timmins area mines will be readily applicable to the planned development of an open pit and redevelopment of the underground mine at the Sherridon property. Kernick brings over 20 years of experience in underground and open pit mining, including time as mine superintendent at Lake Shore Gold's Bell Creek mine in Timmins. As part of his compensation package, and subject to regulatory approval, Kernick will receive 200,000 options at 40 cents apiece, valid for a five-year term. No start date for proposed production at the Maverick Gold Project has been announced.
