Take eight people, a keyboard, an accordion, bass and acoustic guitars, microphones and amps, put them together and you have a band. Add a country beat and it's a country band. Add older hymns and gospel songs and you have a country gospel band. Add an audience and mix together and you get "Country Church". That's what happened Friday evening in Flin Flon when approximately 100 people gathered at First Baptist Church to enjoy the music and camaraderie of a group known as Glorybound. "Glorybound began in 1998 with the realization that our churches were losing many of the old hymns. We added a country beat to the old familiar songs and invited neighbours and friends to worship with us," is how the group describes its beginning. There was no lack of fun or humour as all members of the group enjoy teasing and telling tales about each other throughout the concert. Even accidents, bus repairs and family medical concerns could not keep the joy in what they do from shining through. The audience was encouraged to join in singing along with the group and many found they knew most of the songs presented. From the sounds of the many voices filling the building it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves. The audience was left wanting more yet completely satisfied with the concert. Hailing from Swift Current, Glorybound spends much time on the road. On previous trips our way they have travelled to Thompson, Gilliam and points north. This trip, however, found them heading south to Swan River and Russell for Sunday. We hope that Glorybound will find themselves Flin Flon bound again soon.
