Flin Flon’s future health care aides have put out a challenge to all health care workers: get the flu vaccine.
Getting vaccinated is exactly what all eight students in UCN’s health care aide course have voluntarily done.
“You might not be sick yourself but you can get somebody else sick,” said student Loreena Hrechka, explaining that someone can can have – and pass on – the flu without showing symptoms.
Another student, Danielle Kryschuk, said people who work with young children or the elderly have a particular need to be vaccinated against the flu.
Contrary to the sort of chatter found on the Internet, Kryschuk stressed that the vaccine does not make people sick.
There is no requirement for health care workers to get vaccinated, which is why the students felt compelled to put out the challenge.
They are also challenging health care aide students at Northlands College to roll up their sleeves for the flu shot.
The flu shot is free. Contact your doctor or the Primary Health Care Centre for details.

UCN health care aide students are (l-r) Loreena Hrechka, Brooke Dallas, Scott Highfield, Amanda Anderson, Wanda Fast, Danielle Kryschuk, Christina Littlepoplar, Noella-Jane Caribou and Sara Wilson.
