Fire crews are still working to snuff out a fire at the Flin Flon landfill.

Flin Flon Fire Department members first responded to the fire around 8:30 pm on May 14. The fire is burning deep inside mounds of trash, giving off thick black smoke visible from Flin Flon.

Crews from the Creighton Volunteer Fire Department and Hudbay Fire Department both responded to the fire. City of Flin Flon workers have been bringing sand to the site in an effort to bury the fire. No structures at the dump have been damaged.

Fire chief Chad Cooper said that while the fire department does not normally respnd to dump fires, the potential for this fire to spread past the fire break required the department to respond.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but is not being considered suspicious.
