The mayor of The Pas is taking a tough stance on crime by asking home and business owners to bar suspected gang members from their property, the Winnipeg Free Press reported this week. "If we get challenged in court for infringing on someone's rights, bring it on," Mayor Gary Hopper was quoted as saying. "We want to make them feel as uncomfortable in our community as possible." Mayor Hopper was quoted as saying that youths as young as 12 have been stabbing each other and become involved in drug trafficking. Leslie Robertson, owner of a hotel in The Pas, was quoted as saying that he is aware of five rival gangs in the community. "... We want these gangs rung out of town... period," Robertson was quoted as saying. "People are still getting beaten up, having their liquor stolen. We've got 10-year-olds running around with knives."
