The Saskatchewan government has signed a renewed Gas Tax Agreement with the federal government, providing $56.3 million to municipalities for infrastructure projects in 2014-15.

The Saskatchewan government has signed a renewed Gas Tax Agreement with the federal government, providing $56.3 million to municipalities for infrastructure projects in 2014-15.

Jim Reiter, provincial government relations minister, said the renewed fund will help Saskatchewan municipalities address priority infrastructure projects, such as building roads and improving water and sewage treatment.

“These projects help build vibrant communities and improve the quality of life for all Saskatchewan people,” he said.

The agreement is for a period of 10 years, with $292.7 million earmarked for Saskatchewan municipalities over the first five years of the program.

Under the renewed agreement, there are more eligible project categories for infrastructure funding, including regional and local airports, disaster mitigation, broadband connectivity and culture, tourism, sport and recreation infrastructure.
