Months of hard work are beginning to pay off for the Flin Flon Aqua Centre Committee.

At the group’s latest meeting, held on Oct. 16 at Flin Flon City Hall, the committee detailed its plans to help raise money for facility upgrades.

Fundraising by the group during last summer’s Homecoming turned out to be a success. about 1,200 units of the Flin Flon-opoly board game have been sold since the pre-orders for the game started in April, netting the committee $60,000 before expenses.

Homecoming Committee co-chairs Colleen McKee and Brenda Russell were scheduled to present a cheque to the Aqua Centre committee at the Oct. 27 Flin Flon Bomber game.

Another $1,200 was raised for the group through sponsorship letters given out in Homecoming registration bags.

The committee also announced plans for more fundraisers, including a fundraiser movie night at the Big Island Drive-In next spring.

The committee has discussed six options for renovating the Aqua Centre facility. The preferred option, which would include adding a classroom and multipurpose room and enhancing the weight room and pool deck, is estimated to have a cost around $7 million.
