Jonathon Naylor Editor Flin Flonners are known for their love of the wilderness, and this past the weekend they showed they're willing to help preserve it. Last Saturday, April 14, 91 people attended the Flin Flon and Area Ducks Unlimited 29th Annual Banquet and Auction, held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. 'I think so,' says Ryan Gray, co-chair of the organizing committee, when asked whether the event had become a social tradition. Through auctions and raffles, the banquet typically generates proceeds of about $15,000, and Gray expects to be at that level this year. 'It goes towards projects right across Canada,' he notes. 'A lot of the interest right now is in the Boreal (Forest), and has been for the last 10 years. 'They're looking at (preserving) nesting grounds in the Boreal Forest, which runs from northern Ontario, northern Manitoba, northern Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, B.C.' Reminders The banquet featured plenty of reminders of the cause being supported. Many of the dozens of auction items _Êfrom framed prints to statuettes _ carried a wildlife theme. Co-chairing along with Gray was his wife, Margot. For more information on Ducks Unlimited and the work they do, log onto www.ducks.ca.
