Every toonie that is raised is but a baby step towards the goal of the Mitkas-Hunter Hope Foundation of building a 10-bed Alzheimer Care Facility in our community. On Saturday, about 80 people attended a fundraiser dinner for the foundation at Rocky View OTA. The evening was arranged to honour members of the board of the Mitkas-Hunter Hope Foundation and each recipient received a medal in recognition of their efforts to date. The members were: Terry Pshebnicki, Brian Gold, Mark Ramshaw, Judy Hanson, Roy Bilec, Dave Milton, Al French, Marge Sparrow and Trina Senyk. Also honored for his commitment, support and kindness, over the last two years, was the Honourable Gerard Jennissen, Flin Flon MLA. Honoured as well for his dedication and for being "the backbone" of the foundation was Chris Hunter, who prints all the brochures and takes care of the Web site, among many other "behind the scenes" jobs. After a lovely dinner put on by Rocky View, the guests viewed a short presentation on what the proposed facility will be like and the type of staff that it is hoped will be hired to take care of the patients in a loving, family-oriented setting. The kitchen would be the focal point of the home. The home will be operated with the "can do" philosophy in that everything that can be done will be done for the residents and their families. See 'It's' P.# Con't from P.# This sounded like a faraway dream when I first became involved with this foundation and this group in the beginning, but as I attend more and more presentations, I really believe that this will become a reality. The dedication of people like Helen Hunter, the founder of the foundation, cannot be ignored for long. Someone in "power" is going to have to step up to the plate and make this facility a reality. No one can say that there isn't a need in this community and as the population ages with the baby boomers almost ready to retire, the need is only going to become greater.3/15/2004
