Jonathon Naylor Editor Forty graduates. Eleven communities. One major achievement. Frontier Collegiate Institute in Cranberry Portage hosted its graduation ceremony last Saturday, June 23, in the school gymnasium. 'We have to say goodbye to all of our friends soon,' valedictorian Sabena Traverse said in her well-received address. 'For now, though, we can live in the moment and make memories today at graduation that we'll remember forever with those friends we'll never forget.' Traverse paid homage to parents, guardians, teachers and educational assistants for their contributions to the graduates' achievement. She also commended FCI, which welcomes students from across a vast swathe of northern Manitoba. 'We appreciate the different opportunities this place has offered us, like teaching us to live active, healthy lifestyles by encouraging us to join sports teams and taking on personal challenges,' said Traverse. Traverse was one of seven graduates from South Indian Lake. Ten other communities were represented by the Class of 2012, including Cranberry Portage; Sherridon; Sturgeon Landing; Brochet; Cormorant; Moose Lake; Pukatawagan; Berens River; St. Theresa Point; and Poplar River. The grads took part in fundraisers for the ceremony, including a community pizza sale and a highway clean-up.
