Civic reps from Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach had to wear OCN Blizzard hockey jerseys for the day yesterday, as part of a friendly wager with their northern neighbours. A promotion was held recently by the NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority to encourage people who smoke to make a non-smoking pledge. People were asked to call into the local radio station, or to the Community Nurse Resources Centres, and make a pledge to either quit smoking, or cut-back on the habit. Team B was the OCN/The Pas and Cormorant area and Team A was represented by the Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach region. After the results were tallied, Team B received 53 pledges from their region, while Team A had 30. "For the majority of our pledges to quit, or to cut down on smoking, we are sending out resource material to help people stick to their commitments," said Russell Thorne, the co-ordinator of the promotion for the NRHA. Thorne said the NRHA will be keeping in touch with all those who made a personal pledge during the promotion, to offer any assistance possible, as they tackle the habit.
