Fresh, fresh, and fresh, are the key ingredients at Rock City Diner and the owner hopes it will impresses when doors open tomorrow. Kenny Adams is opening his first restaurant _ Rock City Diner _ and hopes all his favourite foods become those of Flin Flonners alike. Adams' menu is packed with fresh items like homemade salsa and guacamole to go alongside chicken, beef, pork, and fish tacos as well as huge burgers and burritos. Trying to stay away from the mainstream soup and sandwich deals, Adams says he's most excited about the Big A*s Burrito. 'It's probably going to be over two pounds,' said the self-proclaimed professional eater. The burrito will be packed full of traditional favourites along with black bean and corn salsa and rice. 'It's just big,' he said. 'I think the burritos are going to be a big seller.' The Rock City Diner will also feature Flin Flon specials like the Bomber Burger _ stacked three burgers high with triple the bacon and triple the cheese. The menu claims it to be the 'biggest burger in the SJHL.' Home Grown Adams made his way back home to Flin Flon due to family matters, but decided to stay and open a restaurant. He had been gone from the area for 25 years and was eager to get home. 'I always really missed Flin Flon, my family, and the friendliness of the people here,' he said. When Adams came back, a quarter of a century later, he realized there wasn't anywhere to get his favorite foods. 'I couldn't find any of the food I wanted,' he said, and he began to cook up his idea for a diner. Rock City Diner is opening its doors in the former Donut King building at 75 Church Street, and comes equipped with pizza ovens. 'The pizza ovens happened to be here,' Adams said, but he assures the pizza won't have the same taste. Rock City Diner will feature homemade dough, fresh ingredients, and a twist on classic favourites. The menu features flatbread pizzas and focuses on freshness. 'There's no frozen dough here,' he said. Rock City Diner isn't the first time Flin Flonners have had the chance to taste Adams' creations. He was set up at the Canada Day celebrations and at Beaver Lake Days selling pork and chicken tacos. But a restaurant business is a different venture than a taco stand and Adams says he's ready for the challenge. 'I haven't been in the industry before,' he admits, but this professional eater says he knows what he likes. Before moving back to Flin Flon, the restaurant owner worked in sales with Telus. He's taking the leap, with help from his sister Karen (Mouse) Roy _ who will work in the restaurant with him _ as he ventures into the food world. Adams says his menu features his favourite foods. 'It's stuff I know how to make and stuff I feel comfortable making,' he said. Adams says his menu is a real 'guys menu,' but does feature lighter options like side salads. 'I think it's what most guys like,' he said, noting that things will be kept simple. 'And our prices are reasonable,' he said. Either way, he focuses on freshness for his costumers. 'Even though a lot of the (items) will be prepared the morning of, we're going to assemble it (right in front of you),' he said, comparing his restaurant to the likes of Subway. He says quick assembly should make for quick wait times. Rock City Diner is classified as a takeout restaurant, but does feature tables and chairs for casual dining. The restaurant has a few similar features from the previous business, like chairs and some tables that were reused, but Adams gave the space a face lift. 'We cleaned and painted, stained, and resurfaced (everything),' said Adams. The open space also features a new, brightly designed menu board with chalk artwork. 'Lots of people are talking about it,' said Adams. 'People are dying to try something new.' The doors to the Rock City Diner open tomorrow and the restaurant will be open every day. From Sunday through Thursday the doors will open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with extended hours on Friday and Saturday until 3 a.m. 'I don't want people to think it's anything like it was before,' he says, knowing his late-night hours are similar to the previous business. Rock City Diner will also offer delivery and a breakfast special. Adams says they aren't opening their doors earlier than regular hours, but Sundays will feature the special. 'It's not on the menu, but something simple like a grand slam or a lumberjack breakfast,' he said.
