The Summer Work-Student Exchange Program is gearing up for another exciting summer and together with the support of Bev Desjarlais, Member of Parliament for the Churchill Riding, and your local coordinator Erin Boscow, this summer is sure to be a success. The Summer Work-Student Exchange is a program of the Canadian Unity Council that provides 1,200 high school students from across Canada the opportunity to travel to another province for six weeks during the summer in order to gain valuable work experience, learn about another culture and improve their second language. During the exchange, students aged 16 and 17 will travel to a francophone community where they will live with a host family. The Summer Work-Student Exchange Program runs from July 5 to August 13, 2004. There is no cost to participants since the program is federally funded. "The great part about this program is that students are working and getting paid, just like they would at home. With the Summer Works program, however, they are completely immersed in Quebecois culture and the French language," says Erin. "It's such a great opportunity, they'll learn so much." Bev Desjarlais and Erin Boscow welcome all students ages 16 and 17 to obtain more information and apply online at www.summer-work.com
