For any highway travellers around Flin Flon, take extra care Thursday. The area is currently under a freezing rain warning, which may make roads and streets more icy than normal.

Environment Canada issued the warning early Thursday morning, saying a weather system coming from the west would bring freezing rain and sleet into Thursday afternoon.

"A slow moving band of freezing rain will track from Saskatchewan into west-central and northwestern Manitoba early this morning. The freezing rain will continue for several hours before changing to rain as temperatures rise above zero," reads the warning.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice."

Warnings are in effect for extreme northern parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan along the provincial boundary, stretching from the provinces' borders with Nunavut and the Northwest Territories down to Flin Flon.

The Environment Canada forecast for today calls for freezing rain ending later this morning with fog patches dissipating later in the day, with a high of 10 degrees in the afternoon. Temperatures are slated to rise through the coming week, despite rain being in the forecast for early next week.
