Not everyone enjoys an early snowfall, but it's been a big help to City of Flin Flon crews this winter season. Rick Bacon, acting director of works and operations, said the early snowfall has served as insulation to help keep frost from penetrating down into the ground and freezing up sewer and water pipes. He said crews have been steadily working on freeze-ups around the community, but they're not nearly as busy as they were a few years ago. Back in 2002, for instance, cold temperatures combined with a small amount of snow led to numerous problems with the piping, which ranges from above-ground to about 13 feet underground. A lack of snow hasn't been an issue this winter, as the white stuff continues to fall.
