A former employee of the Town of Leaf Rapids stands accused of defrauding the municipality. On Aug. 23, Leaf Rapids RCMP were contacted by the Town of Leaf Rapids and advised of suspicious banking activities on their account. An investigation began and revealed that between July 9 and July 15, 2013, two Town of Leaf Rapids cheques were stolen, forged and cashed totalling about $2,100. A 34-year-old Leaf Rapids man has been charged with two counts of fraud, two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of forgery and two counts of use forged document. He has been released on a promise to appear in Leaf Rapids court on Nov. 7. He was an employee of the Town of Leaf Rapids when this matter came to light.
