Pukatawagan is in mourning after four residents died Thursday in a tragic vehicle accident on the Sherridon Road. At about 1:20 p.m. Thursday, police said, a pickup truck with five occupants collided with a logging truck just over 10 kilometres down the Sherridon Road, north of Highway 10. Pronounced dead at the scene were George Colomb Sr., 53, Thomas Ernest Sinclair, 53, Samantha Rose Colomb, 28, and Serena Juliette Bighetty, 29, all of Pukatawagan. The fifth occupant, a 48-year-old female passenger, was taken to the Flin Flon General Hospital before being transported to Winnipeg in stable condition. She is also from Pukatawagan, a remote First Nation community about 120 kilometres north of Flin Flon. The driver and lone occupant of the logging truck, a 44-year-old man from The Pas, received minor injuries, police said. Cst. Chad Butler of the Cranberry Portage RCMP said the road was slippery and lightly covered with snow "but our investigation is still ongoing and (the conditions) may have been a contributing factor." Police are recommending that motorists travel at reduced speeds on the Sherridon Road. The investigation into the accident continues.
