Kelly Carrington Staff Writer A retired optometrist and mayor is the latest prominent citizen whose picture will hang on the Flin Flon Station Museum's Wall of Honour. Dr. Graham Craig received the recognition during a ceremony held as part of the Flinty's Birthday celebrations last Sunday, Aug. 14. Craig was honoured for his numerous efforts to better the community, both in elected and volunteer capacities. Dave Price, with the Flinty Committee, announced Craig as the 2011 inductee into the Wall, which adds photos once a year. Lois (Bunny) Burke, a member of the Flinty Committee, Flin Flon Station Museum and Chamber of Commerce, said Craig greatly deserved the honour. "He's been here a long time and he's always out there in the middle of everything," said Burke. "Even as the mayor, he was out there." Burke noted that Craig was one of the people behind the start of the Flinty Committee, which initiated Flinty's Boardwalk. "It seemed very fitting that he be selected to be inducted into our Wall of Honour," she said. Craig spent six years as mayor, from 1992 to 1998, six years as a city councillor and nine years as a school trustee. Organizations He has also served on the executive of various organizations, including the Flinty Committee, the SPCA, the Co-op and the Heritage Board, to name a few. Craig is a member of the Rotary Club, Flin Flon Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and enjoys singing with the Flin Flon Community Choir, among other volunteer activities. Following the presentation of Craig's honour, cake was served to celebrate Flinty's Birthday. Due to an oversight, Flinty didn't spend as much time at his birthday as he typically does. New this year was the inclusion of World Bubble Day, which provided participants with all sorts of bubble-related activities. Burke says there were more people at this year's event than in the past. "We were really pleased with it," she said. "Everyone had a good time." The Flinty's Birthday events stayed in their usual spot while Bubble Day took over the opposite side of the road. Though both events were successful, Burke says there is always room for improvement. Nonetheless, those who attended the events had a great day, she said.
