Flu season is around the corner, and flu shot clinics will soon pop up around the Flin Flon area.
The Northern Health Region (NHR) has begun a series of seasonal flu clinics across northern Manitoba, with the goal of suppressing illness and influenza throughout the area. In total, 77 clinics are scheduled for the coming weeks and some have already been held.
“We are gearing up for the flu season by encouraging everyone to receive their flu shot,” said an NHR spokesperson.
Flu shots are considered especially important for seniors, residents in long-term care or personal care homes, children between six months and five years old and people with chronic health issues like heart, lung, or immune system disorders or people with neurological conditions or diabetes.
The flu shot can be administered in several forms, including a high-dose vaccine recommended for seniors and an intranasal vaccine for kids between the ages of 2 and 17 and for adults 59 years or older, as well the traditional injection.
In total, NHR will hold four public flu shot clinics in Flin Flon, each at the Primary Health Care Centre. The first will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on Oct. 29, with another from 10 am to 4 pm on Nov. 3. The third session will take place from 12 pm to 6 pm on Nov. 7, and the fourth and final clinic will be held from 10 am to 4 pm on Nov. 21.
Two sessions will be held in Cranberry Portage at the Cranberry Portage Wellness Centre on Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. Each will take place from 12 pm to 4 pm.
Three sessions will be held at the Sherridon Health Centre in Sherridon on Oct. 24, Oct. 26 and Oct. 29, while four will be held in Snow Lake on Nov. 1, Nov. 2, Nov. 13 and Nov. 14.
