Management at Creighton's Pizza didn't have to look far to find a spokesman for their scrumptious fried chicken. They've now unveiled Flinty's Fried Chicken, a menu item that satisfies appetites while paying homage to Flintabbatey Flonatin, the fictitious professor who inspired Flin Flon's unusual name. Owner Teli Keramydas said he had been trying to come up with a catchy name for the chicken when a light bulb went off as he read The Reminder one day. The article that caught his eye told of two businesses wanting to use Flinty's likeness on souvenirs such as key chains, charms, and magnets. "I thought it would be a good idea to use him to promote our chicken, too," recalled Keramydas. Keramydas soon drafted a letter making the request to the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce, which owns the rights to the Flinty character. The chamber didn't have a problem with the idea, paving the way for Flinty to become Northern Manitoba's newest chicken spokesman. While the name of the chicken is unique, so too is the taste. Keramydas and staff use a special cooking process that does not allow the grease to seep into the meat, leaving the chicken with its own rich flavour.
