Look for Flintabbatey Flonatin's familiar mug to pop up on wood ornaments and caribou hair tuftings. The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce has granted permission for two local artists to use the Flinty image on those items. The approval was given to Glen Mikkelsen, who plans to sell wooden Flinty ornaments at flea markets, and Teresa Wride, known for her caribou tuftings, a traditional art form involving sewing the animal's hair onto a cloth. Wride noted in a letter that she has received a number of requests for Flinty tuftings. At their meeting yesterday at the Friendship Centre, the chamber members approved both requests provided Flinty's image is not altered. Flinty has appeared on many different items over the years, including T-shirts, hats, lapel pins and coins. He is also the spokesman for a local brand of fried chicken. In another matter at yesterday's meeting, attended by 11 people, President Doug O'Brien noted that the business community is planning an uptown parade. See 'Parade' P.# Con't from P.# He said the Parade of Lights won't involve floats, but rather "vehicles or anything you can put lights on." The parade is slated for Friday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. and will start at the north end of Main St., turn onto Hapnot St. and eventually disperse on Church St. O'Brien said previous Christmas parades involving floats have been hindered by the cold weather, as chilly float participants were in a hurry to warm up. Anyone interested in participating in the parade may phone 687-3469 or 687-3397 for details. As well, secretary Gordon Mitchell suggested that the chamber's proposed Peace Park be located on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border at the south end of Main St. And rather than 17 flags as originally planned, he proposed the the park only feature three flags ? those of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Flin Flon. O'Brien noted that a handful of people have contacted the chamber to suggest that same location. He added that the committee overseeing the proposed park has been discussing ideas other than flags. Also, O'Brien took the opportunity to present the chamber's Executive Award to Phyliss Stadnick for her dedication to chamber causes over the past year. Stadnick was supposed to accept the award last week but was unable to attend the previous chamber meeting.
