September 19-26 Mischief/vandalism/willful damage. It does not matter what you call it - it is an offence under the Criminal Code. Anybody who destroys or damages property; who renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or ineffective; who obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property. When our parents were growing up they were taught, "if it is not yours, don't touch it" in regards to other people's property, and they listened. I am sure that we have all heard that and may have even told our children that. The problem is that non everyone is obeying it. All weekend and Monday, the RCMP phones have been ringing continuously with reports of mischief - vehicles damaged, houses being egged, windows broken on a local business, damage at the landfill - the damage goes on and on. Vandalism is such a senseless act that it is hard to understand what gratification people get from it. Anybody with information in regards to those or any other vandalism is asked to call the Flin Flon RCMP. If you witness an act of vandalism or any other crime, please call the police as soon as possible. This past week there have also been numerous break and enters in our community. More often than not, the damage that was done to enter the building cost more than what the thief/thieves took. Break and enters are not only about material goods, it also has emotional effects. People's homes or businesses - where they have felt safe and secure - have now been violated, and they never get that sense of security back. We are asking that the community help the police to police the community. Please be more vigilant, and keep an eye out for suspicious persons or vehicles and call the police.
