RCMP remind motorists that now that the highway construction season is upon us, they are to read and pay attention to road signs.
Police say the signs are there for workers’ safety and disregarding them comes with a hefty fine.
The zone rules changed last year. It is no longer 60 km/h when passing workers. The designated construction zone is 60 km/h until a sign clearly shows the speed change or the end of the construction zone.
A motorist was recently caught in the construction zone between Big Island and PR 291 going 95 km/h in the 60 km/h zone. The fine received was $966.50.
