A resident who recognized an escaped criminal from a photo in The Reminder enabled Flin Flon RCMP to arrest the man earlier this week.

Roger Wesley Custer, 18, of Flin Flon was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after escaping custody in Prince Albert, where he was serving a youth sentence, on Jan. 22.

Police said they arrested Custer at about 3:45 pm on Tuesday following a tip from the public.

RCMP said the tipster had seen Custer’s photo in The Reminder, which last week ran an article on his escape.

Custer remained in Flin Flon RCMP custody as of Wednesday afternoon as arrangements were being made to send him back to Prince Albert.

Prior to Custer’s arrest, police had information that he had returned to Flin Flon.

Custer was previously arrested in Flin Flon in December 2015 after escaping custody. He was being held in open custody at the time of his escapes.
